Will Rumours Overshadow Monaco’s Princely Wedding?

Prince Albert & Charlene Wittstock toured Monaco today in show of defiance against allegation made in the French press

Three days of festivities are due to begin tomorrow in the Principality of Monaco in celebration of the forthcoming marriage of its ruler, Prince Albert and former Olympic swimmer Charlene Wittstock, but rumours and fresh allegations may cast a shadow over the “Playboy Prince’s” big day.

The first allegations came from the French new magazine L’Express, which claimed that police, acting on orders of the Royal Palace of Monaco, prevented bride-to- be Charlene Wittstock from fleeing to South Africa, her homeland, after learning about fresh claims about Prince Albert’s infamous love life.

New rumours suggest that the Prince, who already has two illegitimate children, may have a third on the way, despite being in a relationship with Miss Wittstock for over two years.

The Palace has denied the claims, and the £50million wedding is set to go ahead. Both the Prince and Miss Wittstock were photographed looking comfortable with each other today as they toured the Principality inspecting the decorations prior to their big day. Festivities include both a civil and religious ceremony in the Palace, as well as appearances on the Balcony and a buffet lunch for Monegasques, the native people of the Principality, of which there are around 8,000.

European royalty and celebrities are expected to attend the wedding including the Earl and Countess of Wessex, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, model Naomi Campbell,  fashion designers Karl Lagerfeld and Giorgio Armani, Richard Branson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and business tycoon Philip Green.

The Eagles and Jean Michel Jarre are also expected to give performances to celebrate the wedding in Monaco’s famous port.

In my opinion, I think the rumours surrounding the wedding could easily have been made up by people keen to disrupt a big event, but then again there is no smoke without fire! I hope both Prince Albert and his bride are happy to be getting married, for both their happiness and for Monaco as a country.
